How adorable are these cupcakes? I did a butterfly theme for my daughter’s first birthday and decided to send each guest home with a cupcake to match the theme.
I followed the instructions on one of my favorite food blogs, Annie’s Eats (her baking recipes are amazing!). She adapted her recipe from the book Hello, Cupcake! You basically melt different colored candy melts and draw an outline of butterfly wings and antennas on wax paper. When the chocolate hardens, you assemble the wings and antennas on top of the frosting using chocolate chips to support the wings. The body of the butterfly is a stripe of chocolate frosting.
Can you make the wings a day or so ahead?
Yes! You can absolutely make the wings ahead of time. I’ve made them two days ahead before with no problems. Enjoy!
